Our facility, Challenge Athletics, offers gymnastics in Rochester for all ages from as young as 1 years old. Our tumbling classes are structured in a way that allows for growth and learning new skills, so our athletes are always challenged. Our coaches are able to teach skills for all abilities, and can incorporate many skills for progressing your child. One of their many important and awesome skills is a back handspring.

A back handspring is widely taught in gymnastics in Rochester because it is many kids' goals, yet also is a much needed skill for harder tricks. This skill is a mid level trick, it can be extremely important for connecting tumbling skills, and it also is great for our beginner/intermediate athletes to reach in terms of goals.

Back handsprings are broken down into a backward jump, a bridge, a handstand/hollow body hold, and a hip snapdown. All three of those components are widely stressed, taught, corrected, and made into drills with our classes of gymnastics in Rochester. They begin as progressions and turn into the skill.

Our classes are structured in a way that allows for constant perfecting of the skill being learned, and even if your child hasn't gotten a back handspring yet, they will set themselves up for success to achieve the skill. This is what sets our gymnastics in Rochester programs apart from others.

The break down into drills makes it possible for students to correctly perform the back handspring and to properly continue to add more skills to the back handspring. Without this skill done right, you won't be able to connect another skill because it is the foundation to consecutive tumbling.

Attached is a video of the breakdown of a back handspring and how we coach our back handsprings and what they should look like. Our gymnastics in Rochester programs will properly and effectively teach your child the drills and skills of back handsprings. Call or email to enroll in our gymnastics in Rochester programs now!
